The unexpected beauty benefits of a daily break

STOP: Take the time to breathe and give yourself a few minutes!

There is a lot going on around us—the world, wars, the climate, health, people around us, work, family, finances—all reasons to overthink. Sometimes, you need to know how to recenter yourself and take the time to breathe. It’s easier said than done, of course, but taking care of yourself, even for just 5 minutes a day, would change so many things for our well-being and the beauty of our skin.

Why trust us:

  • We have been at the heart of green chemistry innovation for nearly 10 years.

  • Over 50,000 customers have trusted us since we started on this site and demonstrate their loyalty to us.

  • Passionate, we closely follow all the advancements in botany, cosmetics, and also dermatology.

Stress has a direct impact on the skin:

Stress, that modern-day scourge, barely spares our skin. Beyond its effects on our mental well-being, it also manifests on our epidermis, altering its balance and health. Indeed, chronic stress can trigger a cascade of harmful reactions in our body, notably an increase in the production of cortisol, the stress hormone. This increase can lead to generalized inflammation, thereby exacerbating skin problems such as acne, rosacea, or eczema.

Likewise, high levels of stress can lead to a decrease in collagen production, a protein essential for the firmness and elasticity of the skin, thus contributing to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

To counter these harmful effects, it is essential to adopt strategies to manage and reduce stress in our daily lives. Practices such as meditation, yoga, and deep breathing can help calm the nervous system and reduce cortisol levels in the body. Furthermore, taking time for activities that bring us pleasure and well-being can also have a beneficial effect on our skin, by promoting better hormonal regulation and reducing inflammation. So give free rein to your pleasures (guilty or not 😏) like gardening, pottery, karaoke, learning self-massage, or even dancing in your living room! Anything that helps release tension and boost endorphin levels for a guaranteed sense of well-being.

Taking time for yourself is a learned skill:

In our modern society where the frantic pace of daily life can sometimes seem overwhelming, it is crucial to take time for yourself. Because this precious time dedicated to relaxation and recharging is far from a luxury, but rather a necessity for maintaining our mental and physical health, including that of our skin.

Meditation, for example, offers a powerful way to calm the mind and reduce stress. By focusing on breathing and practicing mindfulness, we can disconnect from daily concerns and offer ourselves a moment of inner peace. There are many applications or videos available for free to get started with this discipline.

However, we avoid spending these few minutes on screens. Social media is not counted as moments of relaxation. The addictive nature of social media can disrupt sleep and attention, which contributes to a state of chronic stress. Taking time for yourself is actually spending time with yourself, one-on-one!

Making space in your schedule isn't that simple, but it's the starting that isn't easy. It is not impossible to reserve 5 minutes in the morning, before the household wakes up for example, or in the evening once daily chores are handled, or even 5 minutes at noon during your lunch break. Once you have started, this break is so beneficial that you will find it hard to do without! For my part, it's my evening skincare routine; I talk about it at the end of the article.

And what about sleep in all this?:

Sleep, that wonderful period of rest and skin regeneration, is crucial for our well-being and the health of our skin. Indeed, it is during sleep that our body enters a state of repair and renewal, thus allowing our skin to regenerate and revitalize itself.

You can surely see it; when nights are complicated, the complexion is duller, more marked, and the skin can wrinkle more easily. To promote healthy and radiant skin, it is therefore essential to ensure you get enough sleep every night.

How to regain restful sleep?

Try to eliminate everything that impacts your sleep (not your children, of course 😏) such as screens checked late at night, dining too late, not exerting yourself enough during the day, etc.

For young mothers, you will have to be patient while the children learn to sleep; bad nights only last for a while. That's what they say, anyway.

Jokes aside, sleep has a direct impact on the health and beauty of the skin, and it is therefore crucial to attach importance to it and implement strategies to have restful sleep. Once again, audiobooks or certain applications can help with falling asleep if that is an element that poses a problem for you.

Cosmetics can't do everything; lifestyle remains paramount:

A good lifestyle is an essential pillar of skin health. This includes daily hygiene habits with a well-built skincare routine adapted to your needs and your reality! If you are still in search of it, do not hesitate to ask our beauty expert for a personalized diagnosis by making an appointment right HERE: Skin diagnosis

But there are also broader life choices that influence our general well-being.

First of all, it is important to maintain or adopt a balanced diet rich in nutrients essential for skin health. Foods rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. If dietetics is not your forte, what is important to remember is to adopt a varied diet, sourced from organic farming and seasonal as much as possible. With these three parameters, you will make the right decisions for your body and your skin.

Finally, limiting the consumption of alcohol and drinks and products that are too sugary and/or too fatty can help prevent many health and skin discomforts!

Let's walk!:

You know it, you read it and hear it everywhere. Practicing regular physical activity is a huge advantage for your health and your beauty. You don't have to turn into a CrossFit champion in your region; the goal is to aim for walking 30 minutes a day. There will be good days and bad days, but it is good to try to adopt a new strategy to move more. For example, try parking a little further from your workplace, not systematically taking the elevator or escalator, and remembering to get up and stretch regularly if your job forces you to sit.

Cosmetic treatments that accompany relaxation:

Here is a selection of products that I like to use when I take a moment for myself; it might inspire you.

When I manage to free up time for a workout, I then take a shower with the Bonne Nuit shower gel, which envelops me with its lavender, geranium, and palmarosa fragrances.

I take the time to breathe deeply to enjoy the benefits of these 3 essential oils. I then like to massage my legs and arms with the tiger oil; I love those energizing and fresh scents. We have menthol, camphor, and eucalyptus here; it’s like an express trip to a spa!

I also take the time to breathe in the fragrances of the Mediterranean flower mist, rose, lavender, and geranium when I spray it on my face before applying the rest of my morning routine.

Finally, in the evening in the bathroom, it’s a true moment of relaxation because I take advantage of the double cleanse to perform self-massages, which you can find here: 3 self-massage tips.

Applying your cosmetics is a moment for yourself; instead of just throwing cream on your face, you can take the time to breathe deeply, enjoy the fragrances, and practice self-massage. This time of relaxation has repercussions on the day we spend: more centered, more relaxed, more luminous!
