Understanding sensitive skin and rosacea

Atopic-prone sensitive skin is reactive, often uncomfortable, and prone to redness, tightness, and sometimes itching. Its tolerance threshold is low: it reacts quickly to temperature changes, stress, certain cosmetic ingredients, as well as diet or pollution. Its skin barrier is weakened, making it particularly vulnerable to external aggressions.

Rosacea, on the other hand, is a chronic dermatological condition that primarily affects the face. It manifests as persistent redness, visible small blood vessels, sensations of burning or heat, and sometimes papules or pustules.

Skin with mild rosacea

Unlike simply sensitive skin, rosacea evolves in flares and requires both dermatological and cosmetic management. It can be aggravated by several factors: sun, temperature variations, alcohol, spicy foods, stress, or even unsuitable products. That is why it is essential to establish a specific, gentle, respectful, and protective routine to best support this skin fragility.

A natural response and delighted customers

At La Canopée, supporting sensitive and reactive skin is a priority. Thanks to our expertise in green chemistry and our requirement for 100% natural origin formulations, the products we offer respect even the most delicate skin while providing effectiveness and comfort.

The routine always begins with a mandatory and ultra-gentle double cleanse, which is done in the evening. Cleansing is an essential step, but often a source of irritation and imbalance if the products are poorly chosen. La Canopée offers several alternatives according to skin sensitivity:

1. Makeup remover step

Gentle floral cleansing oil

It gently removes makeup, sunscreen, pollution, and impurities, without ever irritating the skin.

This soothing oil captures all the particles accumulated during the day, then rinses off delicately with temperate or lukewarm water for clean, comfortable skin.

2. Cleansing step

After makeup removal comes the cleansing step, which is the treatment containing foaming agents. This will clear the pores of final impurities to allow the skin to oxygenate properly and therefore renew itself better.

Black cleansing jelly with purifying actives

You can choose the black jelly if you have a tendency to have shine or a few imperfections.

It is purifying and antifungal, while remaining very respectful of the epidermis thanks to its slightly acidic pH and low content of surfactants (foaming agents).

Anti-tightness gentle cleansing foam

Alternatively, you can opt for the gentle foam if you are only looking for softness and hydration.

It has the same qualities for the epidermis as the black jelly: very few surfactants and a pH close to that of the skin.

The vanilla gentle milk

Finally, if you prefer milky textures, you can opt for the vanilla gentle milk. It is very mild and comforting for sensitive skin.

A reminder that all cleansers without exception must be rinsed off! Otherwise, your skin struggles to oxygenate and risks deteriorating.

3. Mask stage

The soothing milky rose mask

This creamy treatment provides immediate comfort to dry and sensitive skin. It combines marshmallow, rose, oat, and coconut and sesame oils to nourish, soften, and soothe the skin.

👉 Two ways to apply it (1 or 2 times a week):
• In a generous layer on clean skin, leave on for 20 minutes.

• Rinse with clear water or remove the excess with a damp cotton pad. This second option is ideal for preserving hydration in very dry skin.

4. Skincare stage

After cleansing, soothing and hydration are key words. We recommend two creams for sensitive and atopic skin:

The universal cream

Which seems to suit all skin prone to rosacea. For over 7 years, we have had fabulous feedback from our customers confirming that it is a flagship product for sensitive atopic skin.

In its aqueous phase, it contains orange blossom water, which is very soothing. In its oily phase, it is enriched with virgin baobab oil, an extraordinary vegetable oil for thin, dry skin lacking softness.

The baby cream

As its name suggests, it is part of the Ouistiti range, dedicated to moms, babies, but also to all sensitive skin.

Its aqueous phase contains opuntia (prickly pear) juice, which is moisturizing and repairing like aloe vera, soothing wild lavender hydrolat, and oats. Its oily phase combines virgin olive oil and coconut, both rich in essential fatty acids.

The baby cream

These two creams alternate perfectly according to the seasons. In spring and summer, the skin needs a lighter formulation, so we recommend the universal cream. In autumn and winter, the baby cream will be perfect for providing more nutrition and comfort.

A routine designed for rosacea:

The treatments developed by La Canopée are particularly suitable for skin prone to rosacea thanks to the simplicity of their formulas and the absence of synthetic fragrances, harsh alcohol, or active ingredients that are too powerful for sensitive skin.

Each ingredient is carefully selected for its gentle, anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, or repairing action. The plant-based active ingredients respect the skin's ecosystem and even help strengthen it by providing prebiotics, while providing real relief and a visible improvement in the skin's condition.

Additional tips for living better with rosacea

Beyond skincare, certain daily habits can really make a difference. Absolutely avoid mechanical scrubs, overly abrasive treatments, solid soaps, or micellar waters, which can be disastrous for atopic skin.
Very hot showers, prolonged exposure to the sun, and sudden temperature variations should also be limited.

It may also be useful to identify your own triggers, whether they are certain foods, drinks, or specific situations, to better prevent flare-ups. Finally, stress management plays a key role; breathing exercises or relaxation techniques can really soothe inflammation by acting from within.

With a respectful and well-structured routine, it is entirely possible to soothe redness, reduce feelings of heat, and guide the skin toward a more serene balance.

At La Canopée, every formula is designed to respect living things, biodiversity, and the unique needs of each skin type. Sensitive skin and skin prone to rosacea can thus regain softness, comfort, and radiance, day after day.
