What remains the same
The fruit acid exfoliating mask remains what it has always been: a gentle chemical exfoliation treatment, without abrasive grains, that works on cellular renewal to reveal smoother, brighter, and clearer skin. Its melting gel texture does not dry out on the skin. It is still suitable for all skin types.
Its melting gel texture remains intact; it is cool to the touch, glides over the skin without tugging or drying, and rinses off while leaving a feeling of softness. It's the kind of mask you apply on a Sunday evening with a little music and almost forget to take off because it feels so good.
What also hasn't changed is our way of formulating. At La Canopée, our products are 100% natural, manufactured in Grasse, in our own laboratory. This mask is, of course, no exception to the rule.
What has changed, and why?
The reformulation mainly concerns two areas: the exfoliating complex and the main purifying active ingredient.
The fruit acid complex:
five plant sources
The old formula was based on fruit acids and cranberry extract as a complementary antioxidant source. The new formula incorporates a botanical complex built on five distinct sources, each providing a specific acid:
- Bilberry → lactic acid (exfoliating and moisturizing AHA)
- Sugar Cane → glycolic acid (AHA action on skin texture and activation of collagen synthesis)
- Orange and Lemon → citric acid (AHA skin tone unifier)
- Sugar Maple → malic and tartaric acids (improvement of skin roughness and complexion radiance)
Bilberry is also rich in antioxidants, protecting the skin from oxidative stress.
Why this change? Because a synergy of complementary acids allows for more complete exfoliation. Each molecule acts in its own way on the intercellular bonds that hold dead cells on the skin's surface.
Specifically, what you will feel after rinsing is skin that feels smoother to the touch, less dull, with that "new skin" effect we love so much. The complexion gains uniformity without any aggressive effect, redness, or discomfort.
The purifying active ingredient: from white willow bark extract to wintergreen salicylic acid
White willow bark extract is a natural source of salicylic acid, but in the form of a precursor (salicin) that requires enzymatic conversion in the body to become active. It is effective, but efficiency varies from one individual to another.
The new formula directly incorporates salicylic acid extracted from wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens). It is a BHA (beta-hydroxy acid) naturally present in this plant, used here in an isolated form. Its major difference from AHAs: it is oil-soluble, which allows it to penetrate into the hair follicle and act on the contents of the pore. This is why it is particularly effective for purifying the skin and helping to reduce imperfections.
Hibiscus infusion remains present in the formula, still for its richness in natural antioxidants (anthocyanins, hydroxycitric acids). Vegetable glycerin also remains because it ensures the mask does not dry out the skin during the application time and provides beautiful hydration.
This is also what makes this mask particularly pleasant to use. You apply it, wait 10 to 15 minutes, and during that time, the skin drinks it up. No feeling of tightness, just comfortable skin upon rinsing.
What this changes for your skin
Chemical exfoliation remains gentle and progressive; this is not an aggressive peel. However, the new formula brings greater versatility: AHAs work on the surface and radiance, while the BHA (salicylic acid) acts deep within the pore.
Result of this new exfoliation: clearer skin, refined texture, more even complexion, and a more targeted action on imperfections.
The formula is still suitable for all skin types. If you have sensitive skin, we recommend starting with one application, observing how your skin reacts, and if it likes it, you can make it a weekly ritual.
In practice: 10 to 15 minutes on clean, dry skin, rinse with clear water, and apply your usual routine on top. That's all. Simple, effective, and frankly enjoyable. This mask deserves a place in your weekly routine to take care of yourself, the natural way.
