La detox après les fêtes

The importance of a detox after the holidays

The new year is here and it usually goes hand in hand with a detox! But what is a detox and why is it a good idea to do one after the holidays?

Detoxing is a process aimed at cleansing the body of toxins and impurities. To be effective, this can and should be done in several ways.

The start of the year is an ideal time to get back in shape and feeling beautiful. For it to be effective, a detox must be comprehensive and include physical exercise, a proper diet, and the right skincare routine. Here is how to combine all three for a successful detox.

Post-holiday detox

1️⃣ Let’s start with diet!

After the excesses of the holidays, it is important to turn to foods that will help cleanse the body and support it during this transition period. But it is important to do so gently. A drastic change after overindulging could be counterproductive both physically and mentally. You need to get back in the habit of eating fruits, vegetables, and legumes after having had perhaps a little too much chocolate and cheese (we've all been there, I assure you). Here are some habits to introduce into your daily routine during your detox:

🍋 A large glass of water with lemon juice before starting your day. This will help regulate the body's pH and therefore have a beneficial impact on digestion. It will help eliminate toxins. Lemon is a good source of vitamin C, which will also help boost the immune system.

🥦 Increase the portion of green vegetables in your meals. This will provide a good intake of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They are perfect for a detox and will provide good antioxidants to help protect the body against free radicals.

🌱 Drink herbal teas to increase the body's hydration and therefore boost the elimination of toxins. Depending on the plants, you can also enjoy their specific benefits. Fennel and star anise will help the digestive system. Turmeric, rooibos, and matcha will provide an anti-inflammatory effect.

Skincare detox

2️⃣ Moving on to a skincare detox

or Getting back to good dietary, skincare, and exercise habits is important for the beauty and health of your skin. Periods of excess can dull your complexion, unbalance sebum secretion, alter the hydrolipidic film, accelerate skin aging, and also very commonly create blemishes.

The goal of a detox being the elimination of toxins, this can unfortunately show on the face. It is a transition period during which the epidermis may develop blemishes, precisely in order to eliminate the excess.

Here are our tips for a skincare detox:

Cleanse and purify with the Black Purifying Cleansing Jelly which, thanks to its synergy of active ingredients, will help the skin cleanse itself and eliminate toxins and impurities while caring for the epidermis. This is the great strength of this cleanser. A synergy of purifying active ingredients with tea tree, lemon, and lavender, combined with binchotan charcoal that absorbs toxins and impurities, while having very few surfactants (foaming agents). It is therefore suitable for all skin types.

Perfection Lotion

Exfoliate to start on a good foundation. This will help the skin eliminate impurities and toxins, and get oxygenated.

We recommend our fruit acid exfoliating mask, which is suitable for all skin types, even dry and sensitive ones. Use it once a week on your entire face, and then two to three times locally if you have blemishes. Cranberry and hibiscus fruit acids will provide their effective keratolytic action.

If you notice breakouts following periods of excess, you can apply the Perfection Lotion with sanitizing active ingredients locally to help blemishes run their course without leaving marks and to prevent the appearance of further blemishes. The synergy created between tea tree, clary sage, orange blossom, and pink clay is complete for fighting breakouts and soothing inflamed skin.

Apply morning and/or evening to clean skin before applying your moisturizer.

Perfection Lotion

Seal in moisture, sanitize, and purify with the Purifying Essential Synergy Serum.

Jojoba oil, very similar to human sebum, will be very well tolerated by the skin and will help regulate sebum secretion. The vegetable oil is accompanied by tea tree, lavender, and petitgrain bigarade essential oils to sanitize, heal, and soothe.

Apply a few drops to your day and/or night cream, or apply pure to the skin after your cream.

Purifying Essential Synergy Serum

The skin renews itself in a 28-day cycle. We therefore recommend sticking with these three skincare products for at least one month to obtain great results on blemishes.

Post-holiday detox

A true detox would be incomplete without physical commitment. Grab your sneakers and your bikes, because you need to support your efforts with exercise. Here are a few simple exercises to include in your detox routine:

🚶‍♂️Walking is an excellent exercise for detox because it is easy to fit into your schedule and requires no special equipment. Try taking the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator, for example. Consider replacing some trips by car with a walk, and so on.

🧘‍♀️ Yoga helps you relax and focus on your breathing. It also helps strengthen muscles and improve flexibility, while also rebalancing hormonal secretions by reducing cortisol (the stress hormone), for example.

🚲 Cycling, like walking, can replace some of your daily commutes. It helps your digestive system if it has been disrupted by overindulgence, and it oxygenates all your organs!

Starting a detox at the beginning of the year is a small effort. Our brains tend to keep us in that comfort and opulence (of chocolates 😬), yet we can clearly feel that our bodies need it. So, have a little courage; the first step is the hardest, but the well-being it brings will reward you very quickly.

On that note, I'm starting too 😉
