Summer body: the 3-step ritual for soft, hydrated, and radiant skin

In summer, all the attention is focused on the face; we talk about sun protection, shine, and blemishes. But what about the skin on your body? Yet, it is the one on the front line, exposed to the sun, plunged into the sea or the pool, and laid bare in light clothing. As a result, by July, many notice skin that feels tight, rough in places, and less supple than in spring.

There is nothing abnormal or irreversible about it; it is a logical reaction of the skin to the season. Understanding it is the first step toward knowing how to respond without being harsh. Here is a simple, three-step ritual to get through the summer with comfortable, nourished, and luminous skin.

Why trust us:

  • We have been at the heart of innovation in green chemistry for nearly 10 years.

  • Over 50,000 customers have trusted us from the beginning on this site, and we value their loyalty.

  • As enthusiasts, we closely follow all advances in botany, cosmetics, and also dermatology.

Why body skin needs attention in summer

We tend to imagine that heat and humidity "hydrate" the skin. The opposite is actually true; several factors combine to dehydrate it and weaken its protective barrier.

Heat accelerates water loss. The outermost layer of the skin, the stratum corneum, constantly lets a little water evaporate; this is its natural process known as Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL). However, extreme temperatures accentuate this phenomenon by "pulling" moisture out of the skin. An increase in this water loss is a sign of a weakened skin barrier; the higher it climbs, the more dehydrated the skin becomes and the more uncomfortable it feels.

Sweating aggravates the process. Under the effect of heat, we sweat more. As it evaporates, sweat carries away water and leaves behind residues (mineral salts) that can make the surface of the skin feel tight and dry.

The sun damages the barrier. Beyond the risk of sunburn, repeated UV exposure weakens the hydrolipidic film and the skin barrier, which allows water to escape more easily. Skin exposed without appropriate care becomes drier, rougher, and ages prematurely.

Sea, chlorine, and salt are stripping. This is a classic summer issue. Chlorine in pools, in contact with sweat and dead cells, forms chloramines that attack keratin, the protein that keeps the stratum corneum waterproof. Both chlorine and sea salt remove the natural oils present on the surface of the skin and impair its ability to retain water, which causes that feeling of tight skin when coming out of the water. Hence the golden rule: rinse off with fresh water after every swim, then nourish your skin!

The good news is that you can manage all of this with very few steps. An effective body ritual consists of three stages: exfoliate, nourish, enhance.

The 3-step ritual

1. Exfoliate to smooth with the vanilla sugar nourishing scrub

Everything starts with exfoliation, once or twice a week. Eliminating the dead cells that accumulate on the surface means regaining smoother, more luminous skin. As summer approaches, you can prepare for a more even and lasting tan, as a tan takes better and fades more uniformly on skin that has been cleared of its roughness. Exfoliation also helps the moisturizing products applied afterward to penetrate better.

The nourishing scrub with vanilla sugar perfectly combines effectiveness and gentleness. Its texture, made of sugar crystals and plum kernel powder, mechanically exfoliates the skin, stimulates microcirculation, and leaves it soft from the very first use. Above all, it does not strip; a blend of rapeseed, coconut, and hazelnut vegetable oils nourishes the skin during exfoliation. Upon contact with water, the grains dissolve, and rinsing reveals satin-smooth skin covered in a light, nourishing film.

A word of caution, applicable to any exfoliation: gentleness above all. Dermatologists remind us not to over-exfoliate, which risks redness and irritation, and to avoid scrubbing on damaged or sunburned skin. Massage in small, circular movements without applying too much pressure, and space out applications depending on your skin's sensitivity. And above all, grain scrubs are reserved for the body and definitely not for the more delicate skin on the face!

2. Nourish and rehydrate with the rich coconut milk and
the Mediterranean flower mist

This is the most important step for the body in summer, to replenish what the sun, salt, and chlorine have depleted. Well-nourished skin retains water better and regains its comfort.

For skin that feels tight and lacks comfort after swimming, the rich coconut "alligator skin" milk offers intense nourishment. Its formula is highly dosed with 20% virgin coconut oil, rich in nourishing fatty acids, combined with particularly melting Nilotica shea butter, to restore the hydrolipidic film and limit water loss.

An infusion of Roman chamomile and an oat extract soothe the discomforts linked to dryness, while gluconolactone, a gentle polyhydroxy acid (PHA), helps smooth surface irregularities and reduce the appearance of "alligator skin."

For a lighter and more refreshing step in the heat, or as a booster throughout the day, the

hydrating Mediterranean flower mist envelops the skin in welcome freshness.

Its Damask rose and orange blossom floral waters soothe and revitalize, while inulin, a natural prebiotic, helps preserve the balance of the skin's microbiota, and geranium essential oil contributes to the skin's radiance. As for results, 90% of testers found their skin more hydrated with daily use, and up to 94% for dry skin (panel test).

3. Enhance for summer evenings with the island oil

Once the skin is exfoliated and nourished, it's time for some pleasure. L'Huile des Îles is the perfect treatment for summer evenings; it nourishes and illuminates the skin with a subtly shimmering glow. Virgin coconut oil repairs and softens, while ylang-ylang and vetiver essential oils provide a sensory and soothing dimension, and gold mica veils the skin in luminosity, perfect for revealing a summer tan. A beauty ritual as much as a treatment, to finish the day beautifully.

For those who love versatility, note that L'Huile des Îles—both a body and hair treatment—intensely nourishes the skin and enhances lengths dried out by the sun and salt; practical for a minimalist summer beauty bag.

Our natural tips to support
the skin from within

Skincare doesn't stop at the bathroom door. A few simple steps can extend the benefits of your ritual.

• Rinse off after every swim. It is the most effective summer habit; a clear-water shower removes salt and chlorine residue before they can dry out the skin, and then you can nourish it immediately after.

• Stay truly hydrated. With heat and perspiration, water loss increases. Drinking enough water helps the skin stay supple and comfortable; hydration starts from within.

• Nourish your skin through your diet. Good fatty acids (omega-3s from flax and chia seeds, walnuts, and rapeseed oil) support skin suppleness and comfort, while colorful seasonal fruits and vegetables, rich in antioxidants, help fight against oxidative stress amplified by the sun.

• Apply skincare to slightly damp skin. After showering, on skin that is still a bit damp, oils and milks seal in moisture better and absorb more comfortably.

• Don't neglect sun protection. The best body care doesn't replace sunscreen; on exposed areas, apply a suitable sun fluid and reapply regularly, especially after each swim.

In summary

The skin on your body also faces summer challenges: heat, perspiration, sun, salt, and chlorine dehydrate it and weaken its protective barrier. Three steps are enough to support it gently: exfoliate to smooth, nourish to repair and rehydrate, and enhance to reveal its radiance. All this while respecting the skin and living things; our products are 100% naturally derived, made in Grasse, and 100% vegan. Because beautiful summer skin is, above all, skin that you listen to.
